¡Ayúdanos a difundirlo! ¡Queremos conseguirlo!
ENGLISH
Entering the South of Portugal, we began the third and last stage of this adventure. Something fascinating about touring the peninsula by land is the change that we observed in the landscape and its vegetation. Getting into the heart of autumn was a very rewarding experience that allowed us to get some fabulous shots with differences in temperature and light.
November 9th was a very emotional day for the whole team: we said goodbye to our dear friend Sérgio Olaya, who took a flight from Lisbon to Brazil. He has been an irreplaceable piece in this caravan, always ready with his deep and juicy reflections and infecting everyone with his contagious laughter.
The first course in Portugal took place in Ourém, a special place being Diogo's home. Autumn kicked in and we saw rain for the first time in our trip, which was a source of joy for the whole team. In this region, forest fires have unfortunately been very present in recent years. We had the opportunity to walk through the ashes of one of those blackened forests and speak with people who suffered from them firsthand. Their stories show once again that the old forest policy and management require a profound re evaluation
In Castelo Branco we stopped to visit Fernando, a blind permaculture farmer who uses the earth as a way to stay in connection with life and his surroundings. We were very touched by his story and felt very inspired by the way he relates to plants through touch, smell and his own sensitivity. He's also immerse in a very interesting crowdfunding campaign to build some water tanks on his farm.
And, as was to be expected, as soon as we approached the Galician border the rains shrouded us and they hardly left us for a single day. The days wearing shorts and those lush mango feasts in Málaga seemed very far away. The time came to finally use the wrinkled outdoor gear and raincoats from the bottom of our backpacks.
Sol and Naira gave us a luxurious welcome in Ouxariza, Covelo, in the province of Pontevedra. Their home is a peace haven in the middle of the forest. The trajectory of this loving Galician-Canarian family has elapsed between community experiences, permaculture, forest and alternative education, until they built this magical place, where little by little they are implementing syntropic farming practices, with a powerful community of dedicated people from the area. The course was a gift that led to a choral singing of traditional Galician songs, while thousands of trees were sowed while the rain caressed us. A moment to remember indeed.
And finally... Vieiro! It seems incredible now, but we have gone around our beloved Iberian Peninsula and we are back at the Vieiro Agroecological Station, Jaime's home, the place where it all began and where this adventure ends. We will return home with our pockets full of seeds, our heads full of memories and our hearts full of unforgettable experiences and encounters. We feel that we have strengthened strong ties with people who are seeking to approach nature in a different way, with respect and equity. The exchange has been extremely nutritious and together we have begun to bring to life a different model of forest.
And now a new stage will begin, in order to shape all this rich material we have filmed to offer you the documentary that we have dreamt of. Once we've recharged our batteries and integrated the depth of this experience, we will start with the editing and post-production. We still have two weeks left to reach the optimum goal of €35,000.
Help us to spread the word! Together we will make it possible!
