In response to the crisis caused by the DANA in País Valèncià, the Catalan Social and Solidarity Economy and other parts of Spain mobilised ✊🏽.

Sharing concerns and hopes with society, several cooperative, associative and community initiatives have organised themselves to face the emergency. These groups have redirected their usual activities towards the collection of essential materials such as cleaning products and food. This task is carried out in collaboration with local groups and agents active in the territory, ensuring that the needs collected correspond to the real emergencies of those affected.

From the Social and Solidarity Economy for the Valencian Country, we are committed to fostering solidarity as the main response to this crisis, and we continue to work for economic alternatives that prioritise collective well-being, based on Ecosocial Transition and Mutual Support, as well as Economic Democracy, Environmental Justice and Collective Health. In order to strengthen this response, several Catalan SSE organisations have created an emergency cooperative fund, preparing a first call for proposals that will provide financial support to strengthen cooperativism and the SSE in these collective efforts.

We are facing an unprecedented crisis that will also test our society. The social economy has proven to be a fundamental pillar for maintaining solid economic ecosystems, capable of presenting an alternative to a capitalist and ecocidal system that is literally leading us to ruin. It is not just a matter of creating a contingency fund for social economy projects, but above all of demonstrating in practice that the SSE is the best response to the crisis. We must show from the SSE that the way we recover from this crisis will define our society and that we can do it based on the values of cooperation, solidarity, etc., from an economy at the service of life.
